Expert Advice
Home CleaningArea rugs should never be cleaned in your home due to potential damage to the floor underneath and possible molds or rot from incomplete drying. Only clean your rug or carpet in consultation with professionals. Contact Loudoun Carpet Care™ for advice. There are three steps to a proper maintenance plan: vacuum frequently, clean spills promptly and have professional carpet cleaning annually. For new carpets with texture retention warranties, professional hot water extraction may be required to keep from voiding your warranty. Spills are unavoidable! For accidental spillage please call us within 24 hours of the incident for free advice. The perfect remedy for one rug can spell disaster for another, so it's best to consult the professionals at Loudoun Carpet Care™ first. Use mats at your doorways to help keep abrasive particles from your wall to wall carpet. VacuumingVacuuming is your carpet's first defense against abrasive soil. Think of a million little hacksaws grinding away at your carpet just below the surface. These can dull the appearance of your carpet and cause matting and premature aging of your expensive furnishings. Use a vacuum with a brush or beater bar set to just touch the tips of the carpet fiber when vacuuming. Too low and the dirt won't go. Remember to go s-l-o-w-l-y when vacuuming. Change bags regularly and use HEPA rated vacuum cleaner bags. Rugs and carpets should be regularly vacuumed. Before vacuuming, rugs should be turned upside down and the back tapped. Repeating this several times will remove a surprising amount of dirt. Take care not to catch the fringe of your rug with the rotating brush of a vacuum. Vacuum from side to side rather than end to end. Vacuum before soil can settle into your carpet. Professional CleaningThough vacuuming can remove some dirt, professional cleaning is much more effective, and should be done every 6 to 12 months. Rugs and carpets trap allergens and bacteria, aggravating allergies and increasing the chance of contracting colds and flu. The easiest way to improve indoor air quality is to clean the allergens and bacteria from your carpet. Dirt and grit abrades the fibers of your rug or carpet, decreasing its longevity and degrading the color. Don't let hidden soil grind the beauty out of your carpet.
